INEC Ikorodu refuses to pay Training Fees; Shortlists 1/3 of Trainees

“They have refused to pay us training fees. Two-thirds of us who attended the training were also not shortlisted.”,  an anonymous source bemoaned.

This was a report gotten from a trainee at the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) Ikorodu Local Government Area Office, earlier today.

It was gathered that over 3,000 people were trained as INEC Ad-hoc staff, including ex-corpers from the 2017 National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) batch. However, less than 1,000 who participated in the 3-day training were eventually shortlisted. The trainees were also not informed that there would be a further shortlisting and were shocked to arrive at INEC Ikorodu office today and not find their names on the lists posted.

Several trainees have also complained that the lists have been doctored as some of those who were shortlisted as ad-hoc staff for the elections did not participate in the 3-day training. The crux of their grievances was that they were initially told that there would be three Assistant Presiding Officers in each Polling Unit. This is, however, not to be the case as the published list of poll officers have only Assistant Presiding Officers (APOs) I & II. No officers were assigned to the posts of APO III.

INEC Ikorodu has stated they would pay the trainees their fees on Tuesday, February 19, 2019 and they should come back by then. However, no comments were made about the shortlisted candidates or the reason behind the non-selection of APO III officers.
