Mrs Felicia Otunuga; Mother, teacher and fearless titan

    Mrs Felicia Otunuga

    Mrs Felicia Adebukola Otunuga ( nee Adekoya ) was born to the family of late Pa Joseph Adekoya ad Late Mrs Veronica Adekoya on the 16th of February, 1956. She is native of Imomo in ijebu region of Ogun state.

    Mrs Felicia started elementary education at Holy Trinity Primary school and later proceeded to modern school in ogbere in ogun state before she made her way into teacher training college in Abeokuta the capital city of ogun state.

    In the early 70’s she was employed as a teacher in Sunnyday Primary school at ketu Lagos, where she met her husband late Mr Jonathan Otunuga a renowned banker who was later promoted to the post of general manager after their marriage in November 11, 1976.

    Few days after the marriage she had her first child Adejumoke Oladejo ( married ) on 15th of November 1976, she gave birth to her second child Mr Olugbenga Oladipo Otunuga in March 9, 1979. On 9th of April 1981 she gave birth to her third child Mrs Titilayo Otunuga and her fourth Yejide Otunuga in April 23, 1983

    She moved Kano to meet her husband in 1984, where she worked briefly before gaining admission into Ahmadu Bello University where she studied English Language. She had her last child while in school and gave birth to Mr Omotayo Olusegun Otunuga two months after the demise of her husband in 1989.

    After the demise of her loving husband, she moved to Ilaro where she had her first point of call working in a secondary school. She then moved to Ayetoro Comprehensive School where she was the head of English Department and later proceeded to Alaye and another school where she became Principal and retired in 2017.

    Despite losing her husband at a relatively young age, she catered for her family alone for 31years. She was able to successfully train all her children ( biological or by association) with her dogged and resilient nature.

    Like her late dad, she chose a career path in education, majoring in English Education and she shone very brightly, attaining key positions in several schools as follows
    * Vice Principal Obalaju High School, Joga Orile
    * Vice Principal Alaye High School, Aiyetoro
    * Vice Principal Comprehensive High School, Aiyetoro
    * Principal Yewa Secondary School, Igbogila where she retired from Ogun state teaching service

    Ever vibrant and energetic, Mrs Felicia Adebukola Otunuga was also a key member of several associations and groups. She was a former member of the Unity Sisters Club of Nigeria and an active member of the following groups till her death
    * ARPSSON, Yewa North Zone, Ayetoro
    * The Progressive Club Ayetoro
    * Women’s Guild, St Paul’s
    *Anglican Church Ayetoro

    She was loved by many and was a mother, confidant and inspiration to many individuals. She was a titan who is always ready to face any challenges heads on.

    She passed on to glory after a brief illness on Saturday, January 23rd, 2021 at the General hospital in Aiyetoro, Yewa North. She is survived by her children, grandchildren and siblings.
