President Muhammadu Buhari of the All Progressives Congress has been declared winner of the 2019 Nigeria presidential election by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) on Wednesday.

The 76-year-old defeated his main rival, former Vice President, Atiku Abubakar of the Peoples Democratic Party, by polling 15,197,076 votes in the election held on Saturday, 23 February 2019.

Atiku polled 11,256,945 votes to lose with 3,940,131 votes.

It will be recalled that Saturday’s election held after a week-long postponement, which the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) blamed on difficulties in distributing ballot boxes and materials.
