Everton have sacked manager Ronald Koeman after Sunday’s 5-2 home defeat by Arsenal left them in the Premier League relegation zone.
“Everton football club can confirm that Ronald Koeman has left the club,” read a club statement released on Monday.
The Dutchman’s tenure at Goodison Park has come an end after 16 months with the side sitting in the Premier League relegation zone.
The club spent heavily in the summer on Michael Keane, Davy Klaassen, Jordan Pickford, Gylfi Sigurdsson and Wayne Rooney, but now lie 18th in the table having made their third-worst start to a Premier League campaign.
The loss at Goodison Park on Sunday was Everton’s fifth consecutive match without a victory, with the Toffees having won just two league games this season, while they are also bottom of their Europa League group after two defeats and a draw in their first three matches.
The 54-year-old Dutchman, who guided Everton to seventh place in his first season in charge last term became the third Premier League managerial casualty of the season after Frank de Boer left Crystal Palace and Craig Shakespeare was sacked by Leicester.

Everton’s chances of progressing from Europa League Group E are slim, with the Merseysiders bottom after defeats by Atalanta and Lyon and a draw with Apollon Limassol.
The 54-year-old – who won 19 and lost 16 of his 47 top-flight games at the helm.
