#EndSars: Sen. Oriolowo calls for Police Reform, condemns ‘SARS’ Inordinate Operations

The Senator representing Osun West Senatorial District in the upper legislative house and chairman, Senate Committee on Legislative Compliance, Senator Adelere Oriolowo has condemned in strong terms the inordinate operations of the Special Anti-Robbery Squad (SARS) of the Nigeria Police.

The Senator made this known in a statement released to the public through his Media Aide, Oluniyi Isamotu.

He frowned at the the extra judicial activities and arbitrariness of some members of the Nigeria Police Force and in particular the Special Anti-Robbery Squad (SARS) of the Nigeria Police and called on the Executive and Inspector General of Police to bring out punitive measures to curb the ugly trend of police brutality and harassment of young men and women in the country.

“I condemn in strong terms the extra judicial activities and arbitrariness of some members of the Nigeria Police Force and in particular the Special Anti-Robbery Squad (SARS) of the Nigeria Police.

The recent ugly encounters Nigerians have had with this men of the Police Force calls for serious concern by members of the state”

While urging the Executive to take decisive action to curb the excesses of this Police Unit, the Osun born Senator promised to work with other members of the National Assembly to work out modalities on reforming the Police.

“I urge the Executive to take decisive action to curb the excesses of this unit of the Nigeria Police Force to avert anarchy as there are already nationwide outrage from the victims and citizens of the country.

I will equally work with other members of the National Assembly to work out modalities on Police reforms in order to stem this ugly trend”

He thereafter commended the IGP for the steps taken so far noting that “there are still alot to be done as our young men and women can’t continue to be harassed or brutalized by those who should protect them” the Senator concluded.
