Arsenal are Champions!

Arsenal have won the 2020 Community Shield after beating League champions Liverpool on Saturday.

Arsenal’s forward Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang was the man in form for his team as he scored a superb goal and then scored the decisive spot-kick as the Gunners beat Liverpool 5-4 on penalties after a 1-1 draw.

Arsenal went ahead in the 12th minute of play at Wembley with Aubameyang cutting in on the left from a Bukayo Saka pass to bend the ball in. The forward surely celebrated his goal with a tribute to ‘Black Panther’ star Chadwick Boseman, who died hours before kick-off.

Japan’s Takumi Minamino got the ball in the box after a Mohammed Salah and Cedric Soares challenge to equalise late in the second half for Liverpool – his debut goal for the Reds – to send the Premier League champions into a shootout.

In the shoot-out, Aubameyang scored the decisive spot-kick after Liverpool young striker Rhian Brewster had hit the bar with the Red’s third penalty.

The Community Shield is the curtain-raiser to the new English season.
