The eight rule of the outgoing government of Sen. Ibikunle Amosun brought the State’s educational sector to a condition of comatose, Gateway Media Organization, GMO said.
The group on Sunday in a statement signed by its Coordinator, Omooba Damilare Oloyede emphasized that since 2011, Ogun state education has fallen from grace to grass.
“If we won’t x-ray all the sector of living in our dear state, the education sector is a pointer that the government of Amosun is not people-centric as education being the critical tool for human capacity development got no critical attention under the outgoing government. In plain words, education fell to a state of comatose”
Describing attempts by the Amosun’s administration purported and hyped 26 Model Schools as not only a fake white elephant project, but a means of swindling the Commonwealth of the gate way state.
“We can’t forget the fake white elephant project embarked upon in 2012 tagged ” 26 Model Colleges”, up till this day, no single model school is running as a school, yet hundreds of billions had been allocated for the project which can best be described as “a horse on paper”. Ogun state ranks top in the list of State with dilapidated school buildings, our state known for our educational strides have suddenly turn shambles as we are now in the 30s in the rating of performances by West African Examination Council, WAEC”, the group lamented.
According to the group, tertiary education is nothing to write home about in Ogun, thanks to the vindictiveness and ego-breeding of Gov. Amosun.
” Virtually all our tertiary institutions are none functional, is it Tai Solarin University of Education, Ijagun that at a time Amosun was almost scrapping because it was a historic legacy project of the Otunba Gbenga Daniel’s government? Or the TASCE that has been owed close to 48 months salaries, deductions and denied subventions? Or should one talk of Moshood Abiola Polytechnic, Ojere that has since lost his nomenclature, identity and administration to the newly created Ogun Poly, Ipokia yet both can’t run academically. Amosun messed Ogun education up”, GMO further lamented.
While expressing confidence that the incoming Dapo Abiodun administration has what it takes to confront the challenges, GMO advised that a state of emergency should be declared in the education sector and an education summit be convened within the first 100 days in Office of the Abiodun administration.
“The challenges facing the education sector in Ogun state are enormous, it will take a serious government to surmount them. The solace is that, we are very hopeful that the incoming government of Prince(Dr.) Dapo Abiodun, MFR is prepared for the business of governance. We however love to advice our governor-elect to convene an all-inclusive education summit in his first 100 days in office, so that issues belaboring this critical sector can be well looked into and solutions be provided by experts in the educational industry”
