The sudden desire of the outgoing government of Senator Ibikunle Amosun, FCA, to hastily clear the voluminous deductions and numerous arrears owed the State’s workforce accruing to about 20 billion naira is a clear ploy to empty the State purse, the Gateway Media Organization declared.

Describing the hasty decision to appeal to the last minute emotions of the labour leaders, union comrades and general workforce in the State with sudden disbursement of more than 20bn, GMO in a statement signed by its Coordinator and Acting Secretary, Omooba Damilare Oloyede and Dayo Oyewo in Otta this evening, said this is ‘a Greek gift to further squander the finances of the State’.

“While we are emphatic about the state of indebtedness the State government is to our workforce, we are cleverly wary of the sudden ploy by Amosun and his outgoing government to make governance a hard task for the incoming administration of Prince Dapo Abiodun, MFR”

Inquiring why the payment is coming at less than 30 days in office, GMO described Amosun as a wicked friend and a pedestrian politician, who takes vendetta too far against the people of Ogun state.

“Why would a governor who had hitherto withheld the deductions of the workers now deemed it necessary to pay in just less than 30 days? Aside the fact that the deductions withheld for such a long period of time negates what obtains in saner clime, just as it smacks of sheer wickedness on his part, his recent decision has proven part of his premeditated plans to empty the treasury of the state upon leaving office” the statement enthused.

GMO however expressed confidence in the new administration and its plan to revive the sectors that have been starved of the attention of the Amosun-led government.

“As GMO understands that the governor still call the shots till May 29, our commonwealth which is obviously tilting towards a state of comatose, we believe, will receive life upon the assumption of office of Prince Dapo Abiodun.”

“We are sure that no matter what is left of the treasury, the government of Prince Dapo Abiodun will rejig the economy of the state. Olokola FTZ is coming back to life, the deep sea port project will see the light of the day and the welfare of our people shall be paramount in the mind of the Abiodun’s government”, GMO concludes.
